Wan Azizah, Siti Hasmah call on mothers' votes

GE14 | Opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Dr Siti Hasmah Ali, wife of Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, are calling on mothers to make their voices heard by voting in next month's general election.

The duo issued a joint statement, in which they urged women to make the best choice for the sake of their families and the future of the country.
"We urge all mothers who not only care for their families but also for the future of this country to come out and vote on May 9.
"Make the best choice for our future, our family, our country," said the statement, which was later read out to the press by Wan Azizah at PKR’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya today.
Meanwhile, Siti Hasmah spoke about having to look after herself and her husband, who is Harapan's prime ministerial candidate, when they embark on the campaign trail later on.
She said having plenty of rest was essential.
"I need to ensure Tun's (Mahathir) programme isn't too hectic, and what is important for politicians is to get adequate rest before the next day's events.
"We need to eat, yet not eat too much as people would always prepare lots of food after a ceramah," Siti Hasmah said.
After all, she reminded the press, the husband-and-wife team may not be as young as they once were, but stressed that despite the additional years, they still chose to attend programmes.
Siti Hasmah is 91 years old, while Mahathir, who was Malaysia's longest-serving prime minister from 1981 to 2003, is 92.
Also attending the press conference was PKR vice-president Tian Chua and party Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin. - Mkini
