Umno's fate in court's hands now, says Nazri

GE14 | Umno's fate is now in the hands of the court, says supreme council member Nazri Abdul Aziz.
This is following an application filed by 16 Umno members at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur to challenge the party's legality.
This could result in Umno being declared illegal.
"If it has been brought to court, let the court make a decision. This is our country's legal process.
"It is up to the courts. If we are not satisfied we can appeal in court," Nazri told Malaysiakini when contacted.
He declined to say if Umno would be disbanded just as it was in 1988, following a court challenge on the results of the 1987 party elections.
"We can't make any assumptions," Nazri said.
This morning, 16 Umno members filed an application for leave to proceed with a judicial review to quash the Registrar of Societies' (ROS) decision to allow Umno a time extension to hold its party elections at all levels.
The applicants are also seeking a declaration that all Umno branches do not have legal effect, as well as all party divisions and the Umno supreme council.
They are further seeking the dissolution of Umno, effective today.
This follows their argument that the last day for the branches to hold their elections was on Feb 28 and the last day for the supreme council and 191 divisions to function was yesterday, April 19.
The members are represented by senior lawyer Mohd Haniff Khatri Abdulla, who also represents former Umno president and current Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.  - Mkini
