A photograph has been circulating on social media purportedly showing a fatal accident involving a Sabah BN leader and box-full of cash retrieved from his mangled vehicle.
According to a posting in Barisannasional.org.my, the image is fake.
“The message is a fake message and the cash in the box sent with the message had previously gone viral with the title 'pengedaranwang palsu' (distribution of counterfeit money) in February, 2018.
“PDRM (the police) have denied the authenticity of the photograph,” read the posting.
The website also quoted a report in China Press, which stated that the accident did not involve the Semporna Umno leader Abdul Hajan - who was featured in the fake message - but his driver.
“There was no box laden with cash found as claimed,” it added.
The viral message comprised four images.
The first image depicted the accident between a Toyota Land Cruiser and a lorry, the second showed a box with bundles of RM100 notes, the third was a rear view of the Toyota Land Cruiser, and the fourth, an image of the Semporna BN leader.
The Semporna Umno leader's driver is believed to have died at the scene of the three-vehicle pile-up, which also involved a Toyota Hilux Vigo.
According to the police report sighted by Malaysiakini, Abdul Hajan's wife who was in the Land Cruiser suffered internal bleeding in her abdominal region and a fractured thigh bone.
She is currently undergoing treatment at the Hospital Duchess of Kent in Sandakan. - Mkini
