DAP picks Syerleena for Seri Delima, Ramkarpal for Bkt Gelugor

GE14 | DAP sprung a surprise tonight when it announced two young local councillors as candidates for state seats under the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat, a party fortress held by the late Karpal Singh in 2004.
DAP state chief Chow Kon Yeow tonight announced that the party leadership had selected Syerleena Abdul Rashid (above) for Seri Delima and Joseph Ng for Air Itam.
Chow also announced that Yeoh Soon Hin will re-contest the Paya Terubong state seat while Ramkarpal Singh will defend his Bukit Gelugor parliament seat.
Ng and Syerleena are both young and popular Penang Island City Councillors who have kept Penangites updated about their duties and tasks on the ground on a daily basis via social media.
Ng replaces Lim's political secretary Wong Hon Wai who has been moved to the Bukit Bendera parliament seat while Syerleena takes over from the bold and outspoken RSN Rayer, who is slated to contest the Jelutong parliament seat.
Rayer's candidacy could spark some excitement in an otherwise low-key and predictable polling in Penang as he could face Gerakan's lawyer cum national legal and human rights bureau chief Baljit Singh.
Guan Eng touched
"Every parliament seat is important so we must win all seats we are contesting to seize Putrajaya," Chow said.
"We must also ensure that not only does DAP wins all its state seats but our allies in Pakatan Harapan like PKR, Amanah and Bersatu win as well".
Chow said the party may have dropped Rayer from Seri Delima but has other plans for him which will be announced tomorrow.
"We have considered this candidacy well to ensure that it will be accepted by the Seri Delima voters," Chow said as the crowd cheered.
Meanwhile, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said he was touched that despite the rain, the crowd remained to hear the leaders speak at tonight's ceramah.

"Did anyone pay you to come here? Did you get hundreds of ringgit?" He asked as the crowd answers no.
"You are here because you have no fear and you are not scared to support DAP and Pakatan Harapan," said the caretaker chief minister. - Mkini
