Yoursay: Felda boss says fraud, PM says negligence, rakyat say ‘wayang’

YOURSAY  | 'If there is fraud, shouldn't the police and MACC step in?'
Anonymous #19098644: Finally, Felda chairperson Shahrir Abdul Samad has admitted that there is criminal fraud and not just negligence in the Jalan Semarak land transfer.
As for termination of employment or directorship as the penalty, what is this when up to three quarters of a billion ringgit could be lost from the transaction?
Lastly, where there is criminal fraud and the evidence is overwhelming - irrefutable like in this case - there can only be one outcome: some people will need to go to jail for a very long time.
Vijay47: Sorry, Shahrir, but I will go with PM Najib Razak on this: you say "criminal fraud" and Najib says "non-compliance, negligence, and a boys-will-be-boys-mistake". So obviously, the prime minister's take carries.
As usual, I have only two sets of questions to ask:
1. How will the latest development impact on PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli? Will he now be viewed as a real hero and patriot serving the nation by revealing yet another of Felda's many scandals, or seen as someone casting aspersions on the poor PM and his government?
Recent statements by all of you suggested that the Jalan Semarak scam has been resolved with the land being returned to Felda, but you now state that it had only been placed under a caveat. So what's the real story?
2. With the expected changes in Felda staffing, can I apply for a post there? I don't need a salary, since I can avail myself to its millions and the only possible consequence would be dismissal or a slashing of salary, ouch, without any necessity to reside in Sungai Buloh.
Ultimately: So now the story is, they have filed the papers to transfer the land back to Felda, but because of the caveat, it hasn't been done. But the last time, they said it “has been transferred”, but failed to mention the fine print of the caveat. Why not mention it then?
Wasn't it already clear at the time something fishy had transpired? So this still stinks, caveat or not.
Besides, who is to say when the caveat is eventually lifted, the land would actually go back to Felda? And there is also that unanswered question of all the costs involved in this U-turn.
Anonymous 2443871479002035: Shahrir, we already know there was criminal fraud. What we want to know is, who is behind this? Who stole the land? Why isn't he/they already charged?
At the end of the day, the fall guys would be an accounts clerk and an office boy. They will be rewarded later. Then the ‘wayang’ (show) will be over and life goes on.
Anonymous 2443871479002035: If there is fraud, shouldn't the police and MACC step in? Why wasn't a police report made? What are you waiting for?
Miss Z: Indeed, why is there no action by the MACC like how they arrested the Penang tunnel contractors and architects?
Anonymous 2436471476414726: Had this occurred in a Pakatan Harapan-controlled state, you can bet MACC would have conducted raids and opposition figures would have already been paraded around in that infamous orange shirt.
Shahrir clearly lied when he said Felda has gotten the land back without costs. Fake news indeed.
Shovelnose: So what documents did you have at the time to say a few weeks ago, that the land had been transferred back to Felda? I previously felt it was not that easy and quick to complete such a transaction.
So was that another big fat lie to appease the people's anger in view of the upcoming GE? You guys are such damaged goods that your credibility will never recover.
Bluemountains: It is very strange and unusual when the forensic audit was only able to discover that there was criminal fraud in Felda's land transfer, but was unable to identify the criminals involved.
Surely the minutes of meetings and the land transfer documents can provide the clues. Were the auditors given the opportunity to examine these documents?
Slumdog: If criminal fraud has been committed, why is it necessary to appoint an investigating committee made up of members of the Felda board to carry out a legal review? Why isn’t the criminal fraud being investigated by MACC or the police?
But Najib has already set the scene for a whitewash to protect his cronies. Let’s assess what he said.
1. “There was non-compliance with procurement procedures.” At best, this is only a rap on the knuckles for the errant officers.
2. “Negligence in safeguarding Felda’s interests.” At best, another rap.
If that is all that was found according to Najib, then this is a very soft, feeble and wishy-washy view of a serious fraud.
Goldee: “Fraud” and “negligence” - these two words are very different in their meaning. “Fraud” is a crime, while “negligence” is just carelessness.
What is the point of admitting there is criminal fraud, but when those involved are let off scot-free and not prosecuted and charged?
The Felda fraud case is not as simple as it looks because for such a conglomerate, someone from the very top would have given the approval. Otherwise, it would not be so easy for Felda to transfer the land to a developer.
Appum: The rot starts from the fish head, so they say. But the whole fish of Umno is rotten to the core. These officials are selected because of their relationship with the party, or recommended by the party.
Now with excessive greed and power, many like the fish head have taken opportunities to make hay while the sun still shines. The extent of their excessive greed was so massive that we have been labelled the “worst kleptocratic nation".
Yet a whistleblower has been silenced and is going to jail soon. Transparency International, the UN, and the Nobel Prize should award Rafizi a prize for great patriotism, for serving the nation and saving us billions.
Anonymous_40f4: In Umnoland, when you commit a heinous crime like stealing millions in public funds, you only get sacked or a reduction in salary.
Only whistleblowers like Rafizi go to jail for years.- Mkini
