BLACK DAY FOR JOHOR: THE MORE YOU BEHAVE LIKE THUGS, THE MORE JOHOR VOTERS WILL WANT TO KICK YOU OUT – PAKATAN CONDEMNS DISGRACEFUL BN

JOHOR Pakatan Harapan’s leaders are demanding an explanation and apology from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Johor Baru Umno chief Shahrir Abdul Samad over the disruption of its ceramah, allegedly by BN supporters, last night.
“The incident is a disgrace and insult to Malaysia’s democracy,” said Johor PH leaders in a joint statement today.
The joint statement was issued by Johor PH president Muhyiddin Yassin, Johor Bersatu president Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh, Johor Amanah president Aminolhuda Hassan, Johor PKR president Hassan Karim, and Johor DAP Liew Chin Tong.
The Malaysian Insight has contacted Johor Baru Umno chief Shahrir and is awaiting his comments.
PH leaders claim, based on the logos and words on the disrupters’ T-shirts, that the mob was from BN and Umno.
China Press reported today that a ceramah in Kampung Bakar Batu, Johor Baru, last night, was disrupted by some 50 people.
DAP veteran and Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Slang, Stulang assemblyman Andrew Chen, Pengkalan Rinting assemblyman Cheo Yee How, Johor Bersatu secretary Osman Sapian and Johor PKR information chief Akmal Nasir were invited to speak at the ceramah.
“We are saddened by the incident. In a progressing and developing world, Barisan Nasional still acts like thugs and and behaves in an uncivilised way. It was a very regressive action,” said Johor PH.
They added that the host of the ceramah was threatened for his premises to be used for the event.
Chen said BN and PH should both be given space to organise programmes and reach out to the people to let the people decide who to support.
“To exert political pressure and frighten the warung owner is inappropriate,” said Chen, referring to the owner of the premises who hosted the ceramah but called it off citing “pressure” from residents.
Chen said that such acts of intimidation curtailed the people’s freedom.
He said the incident showed that BN had been in power for so long that they felt they could do anything to people, including frightening them.
He said such actions undermined Malaysia’s democracy and must stop lest the country became like North Korea.
