Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua has denied the existence of a plan to field Zaid Ibrahim for a state seat, let alone making him the menteri besar if Pakatan Harapan retains Selangor in the coming national polls.
He was commenting on Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos' claim that he received this information from “Malay DAP members”.
“Obviously Jamal's insider isn't me or my Selangor state committee members because his name (Zaid) has never been proposed or even discussed as a state assemblyperson candidate, what more a menteri besar,” he told Malaysiakini.
Pua, who is also the MP for Petaling Jaya Utara, said Jamal should take his “insiders” to task for providing him with false information.
“Jamal should go back and whip his 'insiders' because he or she is obviously selling him fake news,” he added.
Earlier today, the Umno man claimed that DAP is not on the same page with Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali and is, therefore, seeking to replace him with Zaid.
He said if Harapan retained Selangor, DAP believes it would hold the most number of seats.
“They would then demand that a representative or elected assemblyperson from DAP be appointed as menteri besar. This is what they are working on.
“The concern is how can someone who is rude towards the sultan be made a menteri besar?” he asked.
Last week, Zaid courted flak from the Selangor palace with his tweets concerning ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's remarks.
The ruler had even told the DAP member to leave Selangor and return to his home state of Kelantan if he disagreed with his views.
The police are expected to record a statement from Zaid, who is being investigated under the Sedition Act for his tweets, tomorrow.
Selangor DAP had distanced itself from the royal controversy, with Pua arguing that Zaid had to deal with the repercussions.- Mkini
