Preacher Zamihan Mat Zin has challenged Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad to reveal the "godfather" purportedly protecting him or face legal action.
"If it is true that I am protected by a 'godfather' then I challenge the Amanah leader to reveal who is this 'godfather' as claimed by him.
"Khalid's statement is not only an attempt to sully my reputation but is seen as an opportunist move for him and the opposition in response to issues that have been sparked," he said in a statement today.
Zamihan had become embroiled in controversy after he called Chinese "unclean" and criticised the Johor Sultan's stance against a Muslim-only laundrette during a religious lecture at a mosque in Selangor.
Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar subsequently decreed for the Johor Islamic Religious Department to sever ties with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia, a federal agency which had hired Zamihan.
Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had also decreed for Zamihan's preaching accreditation in Selangor to be revoked.
Following these developments, Khalid claimed Zamihan was under the protection of a "godfather".
However, Zamihan said if Khalid fails to prove his allegation, then it will show that the Amanah information chief is a liar.
"Therefore, I want Khalid Samad to issue an open apology over his malicious statement aimed at spoiling my reputation, failing which, I will instruct my lawyer to initiate legal action against him without prejudice.
Zamihan, who is also the president of Pertubuhan Ahli Sunnah Waljamaah Malaysia (Aswaja), said his organisation struggles for Allah and not any "godfather".- Mkini
