WITHOUT THINKING, ‘OBEDIENT PUPPY’ MCA DEMANDS OPPOSITION APOLOGIZES TO IGP: BUT PENANG OKTOBERFEST WENT SMOOTHLY & WILL IGP ALSO CANCEL GE14 IF THERE ARE BOMB THREATS?

Opposition figures who cast doubt on the credibility of the police over the cancellation of the Better Beer Festival 2017 should apologise now that people who allegedly plotted to bomb the event have been arrested, said MCA publicity chief Chai Kim Sen.
Chai said the police have been vindicated follow the arrest and this proved that the police did the right thing in advising against the holding of the event.
“It was for the sake of protecting lives and property to ensure peace and stability,” he said in a statement today.
Chai expressed regret that some opposition members had initially cast doubts on the credibility of the police for wanting the event cancelled.
“These opposition politicians should apologise to the rakyat and the police, as they were politicking merely for the sake of playing politics, rather than safeguarding security,” he said.
The police had called for the event, scheduled for Oct 6 at a popular shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, to be cancelled on grounds that it was a target for militants.
Following this, critics accused the police of playing politics and should apprehend the said militants rather than forcing the cancellation of the event.
SH: ‘Freedoms without security is meaningless’
Yesterday, the police said they have apprehended a self-taught 19-year-old bombmaker, a former military personnel who allegedly financed the bombmaker and a third suspect.
The suspected bombmaker was supposed to sit for STPM exams on Nov 6.
Chai said the police should be praised for their professionalism, speed and efficiency in apprehending the three suspects in Kelantan.
“It demonstrates their outstanding performance in countering terrorism… Our police’s feats are internationally recognised for their talent and ability,” he said.
He said MCA will continue to protect the rights of non-Muslims as laid out in the Federal Constitution, including the right to consume alcohol.
However, he said there cannot be a compromise when it comes to security matters.
“If a government is unable to safeguard people’s safety and security, and fails to ensure peace and order in society, (then) all other rights and freedoms will become meaningless,” he said.
