KOTA KINABALU – Sabah opposition party, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat) will hold its first anniversary celebration and annual congress here on Oct 25 and Oct 26.
The annual congress, to be held at Likas Square on Thursday, is expected to be attended by 1,000 delegates and observors from all party divisions statewide.
Harapan Rakyat deputy president Datuk Maijol Mahap said party president Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin will officiate both events.
“Before the annual congress, we have successfully concluded the Annual General Meeting for our 24 Divisions in Sabah, including the division in Labuan.
“Lajim’s policy speech during the congress will cover various political, social and economic issues that are presently faced by the people of Sabah, as well as the party’s commitment to fight for the people’s interest and rights within the Federation of Malaysia,” said Maijol, in a statement.
Among the motions that will be tabled during the congress is the change of the party’s logo, in which will be made similar to the party’s flag.
“The uniformity of the logo and flag is necessary not just to make the logo more dominant but also for easy recognition by the public, and this has been discussed and approved by the Supreme Council.
“We also want to make ‘HR’ as an acroynm name of the party beside the existing words ‘Harapan Rakyat’.
“Our party is a very young party and these are among the domestic adjustments we have to make at this stage,” he added.
Meanwhile, the party’s first anniversary celebration will take place the night before the congress (Oct 25) at the same venue, to celebrate the party formation on Oct 24, 2016.
“We will invite United Sabah Alliance (USA) chairman Datuk Mohd Noor Mansor and also the presidents of the other three parties in USA namely Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan of Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star), Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and Datuk Seri Arshad Abdul Mualap of Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah (PPRS) to both events,” Maijol added.
USA is the state-based opposition bloc consisting of Harapan Rakyat and the three parties mentioned.
