Let RCI clean up Immigration Dept, new boss urged

Image result for Mustafar Ali

Saying the Immigration Department is in deep crisis today, MP for Bukit Mertajam Steven Sim gave its new director-general Mustafar Ali a cautious welcome, and urged him to support the call for a Royal Commission of Inquiry to clean up the department.
Mustafar Ali is the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) outgoing deputy chief commissioner, and replaces Sakib Kusmi.
Sim, in a statement today, alleged undocumented workers, human trafficking activities, and a "disorganised" migrant workers' policy, as major issues that had to be tackled.

He also called on Mustafar to stop and review all private vendor contracts by Immigration Department since January 2015, and going forward, to conduct open tenders for all contracts.
The Bukit Mertajam MP also asked for a high-level inter-departmental investigation team to be set up and lead by the Enforcement Agencies Integrity Commission together with MACC and the police, to crush insider syndicates involved in human trafficking activities.
Sim added that Mustafar had ample experience in fighting corruption which would certainly be useful in his new post, but only if he was given full rein to do so, without being held back by political interference. - Mkini
