‘Respect Mukhriz Mahathir’ T-shirts a hot item in Kedah

Sale of T-shirts represent strong support for Mukhriz, says entrepreneur.

ALOR SETAR: ‘Respect Mukhriz Mahathir’ T-shirts have been selling like hotcakes, with over 300 purchased in just two days.

The T-shirts, being sold ahead of this evening’s peaceful gathering in Darul Aman Stadium here, are being snapped up by supporters of Mukhriz who plan to protest his removal as the state’s Menteri Besar.

The man behind the T-shirts, Abdullah Mat Zain, said his brisk sales showed how many Kedahans were rallying behind the MB despite allegations of him failing to properly manage the state.

“The youth love Mukhriz for his ideas on sports development especially his effort to improve the state’s football performance.

“We designed these T-shirts especially for his supporters as we respect his administration,” the 40-year-old man told FMT.

Expressing confidence that sales would increase in the next few hours, Abdullah said he would produce more to meet the demand which he predicted would continue till the gathering is held.

“As long as the demand is there, we will sell the T-shirts,” Abdullah said, adding that each shirt was priced at RM25.

One customer, a 23-year-old who only wanted to be known as Zam, said he planned to wear the T-shirt at the gathering this evening.

He said it would be his way of showing support for Mukhriz to remain as the state’s Menteri Besar.

“We support his administration.”

State Umno Deputy Chairman Ahmad Bashah Md Hanifah and several divisional leaders, however, feel differently and have called for Prime Minister Najib Razak to remove Mukhriz as menteri besar and state liaison chief after allegedly having failed to administer the state government effectively.

Ahmad Bashah also accused Mukhriz of failing to unite Umno, as well as failing to plan properly for the 14th General Election.

Rumours are swirling that Kedah is about to see a new Menteri Besar sworn in at the Anak Bukit Palace today after a meeting between all Barisan Nasional lawmakers and the Kedah Regency Council.

Mukhriz, however, has claimed to be unaware of any such development.
