POST-1MDB M'SIA: Nazir Razak to be 7th PM, Anwar UN sec-gen?

POST-1MDB M'SIA: Nazir Razak to be 7th PM, Anwar UN sec-gen?
Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman recently wrote an open letter to rebuke The Wall Street Journal for its lack of understanding and knowledge of Malaysia and its history, in response to a commentary by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the New York-based daily.
Those acquainted with the history of Southeast Asia will, however, be well aware that the Federation of Malaysia is set to celebrate its 52nd anniversary of formation come September 16 this year.
During such a period, several important events have transpired; most of them possibly included in history notes shared in classrooms and lecture halls throughout the country.
However, an expression used by physicist Isaac Newton in his early 18th century book, which was only discovered in 1935, has inspired me to imagine certain developments which will take place in post-GST and 1MDB Malaysia.
Hence, the “history of things to come” in Malaysia will begin as soon as GE14 ended:
May 2018: Pakatan 2.0 managed to wrest power from the clutches of Barisan Nasional; ending more than 60 years of uninterrupted rule under Umno.
The Malay party won 23 parliamentary seats, while its component parties in the peninsula, namely Gerakan, MCA and MIC won two each. Islamist PAS, in addition, won 3 parliamentary seats in Kelantan and Terengganu.
BN component parties in East Malaysia made a clean sweep but agreed to cooperate with Pakatan 2.0, which originally comprised PKR, DAP, Harapan Baru and Bersih.
Together, Pakatan 2.0 plus Sabah and Sarawak political parties garnered 190 seats, enabling the coalition to form a new Federal Government.
After much deliberation, Datuk Seri Nazir Razak (Harapan Baru MP) was chosen as the 7th Malaysian Prime Minister, flanked by a Sarawakian and a Sabahan as his deputies. The process of healing the nation began soon after.
Upon taking the oath of office, Nazir announced the controversial GST as well as a host of other policies would be replaced.
Petrol royalty for oil producing states namely Terengganu, Sarawak, Sabah and Kelantan would be increased to 20%.
In addition, toll collection would also be phased out though road users were encouraged to donate at unmanned booths along major highways in West Malaysia.
June 2019: Education Minister Zairil Khir Johari proudly revealed the inclusion of Universiti Malaya and Universiti Sains Malaysia in the list of “Top 20 Universities in Asia” published by the annual Times Higher Education–World University Rankings, based on global reputation, research production and impact, and internationalisation.
Sept 2019: Prime Minister Nazir tabled a budget surplus for the first time since 1997.
January 2020: Malaysians ushered in the New Year, with Wawasan 2020 fully achieved.
PM Najib and Brother Nazir Razak
Leaders from both Pakatan and BN as well as the genaral populace rejoiced as the nation charted progress in terms of national unity and social cohesion, economy, social justice, political stability, system of government, quality of life, as well as social and spiritual values.
March 2020: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) was announced as one of the world's most profitable airline groups with net profits of USD1.3 billion.
July 2020: Farah Ann Abdul Hadi won another Olympic gold for Malaysia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (the first gold was bagged by Lee Chong Wei in Rio four years earlier).
January 2021: Anwar Ibrahim appointed UN Secretary General.
February 2022: Malaysia unveiled a project which would power every home using renewable energy by 2025, with millions of solar panels installed across the country.
December 2022: Malaysians geared for another general election, with BN (comprising of Umno, MIC, MCA and Gerakan) led by Khairy Jamaluddin, facing off with Pakatan 2.0.
Both political coalitions presented their plans for the country's future, minus the racial and religious undertones.
A search on Wikipedia would by then provide the following profile:
Malaysia, a modern, prosperous and upbeat nation with a population of 38 million, earning an average household income of RM10,000 a month.
Though Islam is the official religion in peninsula Malaysia, every person has the right to profess and to practice his or her religion in peace and harmony.
The status of freedom of religion in Malaysia is no longer a controversial issue, with questions including whether Malaysia is an Islamic state or secular state resolved.
Okay, the sceptics will have a different take, while at the same time, anyone who believes in the existence of The Supreme Being will say, “Semuanya di dalam ilmu Allah” (God knows best).
But then again, former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s stern warning to his Umno party members to face reality, seems to suggest a scenario not far off from the one I imagined. – TMI
